Buddha Fields and the Field of Dreams

“The fulfillment of desire is in its elimination,” he said.

“Are you quoting someone or did you make that up? It sounds almost insightful.” I replied.

“Yes, it does. Well, desire it they key as we say,” he continued.

“You are confusing desire with gluttony, lust, and avarice. But I get your point,” was his response.

Pausing, “I was thinking about that earlier and it is the reason people succeed at something or don’t. They need to really desire it. One is either in or out. Otherwise, it is simply a notion, a wish, a whim, some kind of passing fancy, but not a visceral desire. Desire needs to be cultivated to the point where it is all consuming and achieves something, or extinguished before it can become a toxic little mine fire under your skin.”

“Our readers tell us they desire to know themselves, to experience the invisible realms, to interact with denizens of the astral, to conquer death itself, but it it not desire, it is a wish. This creates lack of commitment, which is lack of inner congruity, and that means they have not thrown the totality of their Thought, Word, and Deed into the quest or committed their Time, Talent, and Treasure in the needed amount to get the job done. We both see that all the time with people who say, ‘I want to write a book’ but then gasp for air when they need to pay someone to help them get it done correctly. My one teacher used to say, ‘Everyone wants to get to heaven, but nobody wants to die’.”

“So, what is it that you desire?” is the question.

“I desire that those people who have told me that my writing and lecturing, teaching in all its forms, would demonstrate that they understand that the there is a message here, and that time is running out. The grains of sand are slipping through the hourglass, and by that I am referring to both their mortality, and the social-economic situation we are in that allows us to provide solid esoteric education and training in the future. That is what tradition is all about – it is as one rabbi said in an old Gnosis Magazine interview, ‘the gift I give myself in the future.’ At this rate, there will very little tradition and esotericism in the future. On the bright side, there will be Star Wars and Jedi will be a growing religion on census forms, and demiurge George Lucas will be richer as a result.”
