Near the end of his presentation at the 1999 Philosophers of Nature Conference (PON) Jean Dubuis mentioned the importance of meditating on Mont St. Michel as a means of achieving a contact with the sphere of Hod and the energies of Mercury. Dubuis stated that with this contact we could have a realization of our “inner Thoth-Hermes” and that it was at that point in our inner journey that a certain degree of control over the Elemental energies begins. For those on the Hermetic Path this experience is critical because it places us firmly above many (but not all) of the negative and illusory influences of the astral energies that surround the aura of the Earth and which formulate much of the Lunar domain or Yesod.
A color-photocopy of a photograph of Mont St. Michel was available to members (at the cost of $2.00 each, as color copies were a rarity then), and with Steve Kalec acting as translator Dubuis mentioned that Mont St. Michel was very important to him. It was there, at twelve years of age, that he had his first “Experience of Eternity.” This experience was deep and profound, revealing to him his past and future, and yet, it was almost lost on him without proper preparation so as to make use of that information. He would have this experience many times across his life and it would culminate in his magnum opus “Experience of Eternity.” Copies of this work are available in French and English as a PDF from the link below.
The directions given were simple: during the hour immediately following sunrise on Wednesday (known as the planetary hour of Mercury) meditate or visualize Mont St. Michel, and if possible the transept where the energies are their strongest. The best time of year for this contact was stated as being “in Autumn and Winter.”
