MYTHOS & LOGOS: Facts, Truth, and Reality Ancient occult philosophy for a strange new world.

Ancient occult philosophy for a strange new world.

Learn how the process of mythmaking reveals and organizes reality, in antiquity as well as today.

Learn how we do we know what we know and how do we have Gnosis: Occult Epistemology

How ancient thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle gained knowledge of both the physical and metaphysical worlds.

How we navigate divergent realities: Mythos/Logos

Learn how to separate the objective linear narrative (logos) from the subjective cyclical story (mythos).

How life imitates these arts: Reality

Learn why oftentimes the myth is actually more real than the facts, and that facts and truths are two very different ontological categories.

And how we use this to our advantage

Is myth simply something primitive people believed before science came along to set them straight? Or is it something that conveys deeper meaning about reality that facts alone cannot? This three-week course explores the relationship between myth, knowledge, facts, and truth, drawing on Plato, Aristotle, Mircea Eliade, and others to examine how we understand the world, how we participate in recurring archetypal patterns, and why mythmaking remains an inescapable part of the human experience. We will conclude this course by examining modern conspiracy theories, secret societies, political narratives, and UFOs/UAPs as examples of our continuing need to find meaning beneath the surface of things. Have we outgrown myth, or have we simply forgotten how to recognize it?
